ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION The most common surgical procedures, such as LDA, tramautic reticulitis and caesarean section (623), are undertaken using paravertebral nerve block or local infiltration anaesthesia. Digit amputation (624) is undertaken under intravenous regional anaesthesia (IVRA) with or without prior xylazine sedation. There are relatively few procedures in cattle practice requiring inhalation general anaesthesia and gaseous anaesthesia will not be described in this chapter, although it is clearly an option in hospital settings.
