DEFINITION AND CLINICAL FEATURES Basal cell carcinoma (BCC) is a slow-growing, locally destructive, malignant neoplasm of basal keratinocytes. It is the most common cancer in humans and particularly common in the elderly. BCC, for practical purposes, does not metastasize and poses a local, but generally not systemic, threat.
