DEFINITION AND CLINICAL FEATURES Leg ulcers are a common problem in elderly patients and have many potential causes. It is important to investigate possible underlying factors, since leg ulcers may be the presenting symptoms of potentially dangerous systemic conditions. The lower leg can be one of the poorest healing areas of the body owing to its dependent position and less effective circulation.
