ABSTRACT

It was not, however, until 1984 that the true significance of the palaeontology of this region was realized when Professor Hou Xian-guang, then a member of the Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, arrived in Kunming City, the capital of the province, to begin a collecting programme of bradoriid arthropods from the Lower Cambrian Heilinpu Formation. After an unsatisfactory stint of field work at Hongjiachong, the field camp was moved to a more complete section on the western slopes of Maotianshan (Maotian Hill) approxi - mately 6 km (c. 3.7 miles) east of the county town of Chengjiang (Hou et al., 2004; 38, 39).
