ABSTRACT

Endovascular aortic repair is a relatively new surgical alternative to the traditional open surgical techniques, as it has a lower mortality and morbidity (1). Despite the growing popularity of endovascular grafts or endografts, the optimal imagingmodality for guidance, during an implantation procedure, is not well defined (2). At present, transesophageal echocardiography (TEE), in conjunction with intraoperative angiography, appears to be advantageous and adds incremental information to guide endograft placement safely in a descending thoracic aneurysm or in type-B aortic dissection (3,4). This chapter describes the approach to the treatment of aortic disease, chronic or traumatic, and the role of TEE in endovascular surgery.
