ABSTRACT
All drugs pose some risk to a patient. Proper patient evaluation, prescribing, monitoring, and follow-up is essential to ensuring safe medication use. Health care practitioners are responsible for assessing benefit to risk in each patient receiving pharmacotherapy. This entry discusses the factors involved in patients experiencing an adverse reaction to a particular drug and how the reaction can be treated or prevented.
