ABSTRACT
The use of biomarkers is a rapidly emerging theme within the drug development arena, given their capacity to facilitate the generation of more effective and safer medicines. This entry reviews the presence of biomarkers in the development of new pharmaceutical drugs, the technology associated with biomarkers, and different types of disease and drug related biomarkers.
