ABSTRACT
The liquid crystalline state combines properties of both liquid and solid states. Liquid crystalline phases represent intermediate states and are also called mesophases. This entry provides insight into the formation of crystalline states and examines different methods for characterizing liquid crystals, and also discusses various applications of liquid crystals in drug delivery.
