ABSTRACT

Pulmonary delivery of medications has been widely accepted as the optimal route of administration for the treatment of lung diseases, such as asthma and chronic obstructive lung disease (COPD). This entry provides a brief overview of the historical presence of pulmonary drug delivery and then moves into a discussion of the advantages of pulmonary delivery, aerosolized drug deposition, gene therapy, and other various treatments that can be delivered via the pulmonary route.
