ABSTRACT
Effervescent tablets are uncoated tablets generally containing acid substances and carbonates or hydrogen carbonates, which react rapidly in the presence of water to release carbon dioxide. This entry reviews the raw materials out of which effervescent products are made, discusses the chemical reaction that activates the drug, and touches on the commercial marketing of effervescent drug products.
