ABSTRACT

Materials used in the biopharmaceutical industry must be cleanable, corrosion-resistant, and must not interact with the process, cleaning, or sanitizing fluids. They must not decompose or generate particulates under a range of operating, cleaning, and sanitizing conditions. They should be reasonably priced and attractive. This entry introduces the standards and codes of surface finishes for the pharmaceutical industry and discusses the materials of construction and the upkeep which they require.
