ABSTRACT
Pharmaceutically active medicines (drug products) are expected to be efficacious; however, the presence of microorganisms or microbial by-products in these products may have adverse effects on their efficacy. This entry discusses the microbial control of sterile products, reviews the importance of sterility, sterility testing, and sterility assurance, and also examines microbial control of non-sterile products.
