ABSTRACT
Rapid technological developments have created biomacromolecules, i.e., proteins and peptides with higher pharmacological activity, to emerge as a major class of therapeutic agents. The aim of this entry is to provide basic principles and developments in mucoadhesive, buccal drug delivery systems to circumvent the difficulties associated with the delivery of biologically active compounds to the systemic circulation.
