ABSTRACT

The purpose of a pharmacopoeia and particularly of the European Pharmacopoeia (Ph.Eur.) is to promote public health by providing common standards for medicinal products recognized by health authorities and all those concerned by the quality of medicines. This entry is meant to serve as an overview of European Pharmacopoeia standards. The entry first provides a brief background and history of European Pharmacopoeia, and then moves to a discussion of legal status and implementation and the impact of globalization on pharmacopoeial standards.
