ABSTRACT

The cell culture laboratory is a sophisticated, meticulous, detail-oriented environment that relies on well-practiced features of cell biology while incorporating the latest instrumentation of biotechnology. In general, good laboratory practice is critical for maintaining an environment for optimum cell growth and proliferation. In spite of the sophisticated techniques and instrumentation required to establish and maintain a cell culture laboratory, the work, at least in part, is repetitive and requires considerable amounts of time. Consequently, most of the techniques focus on the procedural steps in the protocol. It is also important that the physical laboratory is dedicated to cell culture exclusively. Using the laboratory for other than cell culture techniques and incubation increases the risk of microbiological and crosscontamination from other parts of the environment.
