11.3 Bench warrant

If the defendant was originally arrested and charged, failing to attend court is not only an offence itself (s 6 of the Bail Act 1976) but also enables the court to grant a warrant for the defendant’s arrest (s 7(1) of the Bail Act 1976). Such a warrant is known as a ‘bench warrant’.
