ABSTRACT

Memory cannot be relied upon and it is not advisable to write verbatim notes while you are interviewing, since you will not be able to concentrate on listening and observing.

Your notes may well reveal gaps, inconsistencies, uncertainties and omissions. Did your attention stray? Was your questioning and probing inadequate? Did you forget to cover a particular point? If necessary, a follow-up telephone call or letter may be necessary to clarify matters, but this should be done quickly while the interview is still fresh in the client’s mind.
