ABSTRACT
Lawyers still use the word ‘property’ in this abstract sense of ownership. For example, it is often said, in relation to a gift of chattels, that ‘Property passes on delivery’. To the layman, that may appear a truism, but the lawyer understands it to mean that ownership passes at the moment when the item is physically handed over.
