ABSTRACT
This Act seeks to give preventative protection to the residential tenant by making illegal eviction and harassment criminal offences. It was anticipated that the threat of prosecution would reduce the risk of such unlawful behaviour by landlords. The Act also recognises a tenant’s civil remedy to pursue a claim for compensation when these criminal offences have been committed.
