ABSTRACT
At the time of writing, the Government is undertaking a strategic appraisal of the health and safety system, to mark the 25th anniversary of the implementation of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. It is too early to say what the outcome of this review will be. However, a recent consultative document (referred to below in Chapter 13) indicates that steps may be taken to increase the role of the worker, either by strengthening the existing safety representative system, or by other means.
