ABSTRACT

The law of contract developed over the past 200 years to meet the needs of English manufacturers and merchants, following the Industrial Revolution. The law managed to accommodate the commercial developments that followed, including the growth of international markets. However, in the last 50 years, the world of commerce has moved into the electronic era. Since the Second World War, when a computer took up a whole room, desktop and laptop computers have emerged. Mobile phones have added to the sense of business being conducted ‘on the move’.
