ABSTRACT

Wild Birds are given a degree of protection under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981. Wild birds are defined in s 27(10) of the 1981 Act as ‘any bird of a kind which is ordinarily resident in or is a visitor to Great Britain in a wild state, not including any birds that have been bred in captivity or poultry or game birds’. Poultry include domestic fowl, geese, ducks, guinea fowl, pigeons, quail and turkeys, while game birds comprise pheasant, partridge, etc.
