ABSTRACT

The reason why this approach is unsatisfactory is because it is not underpinned by any ideological discussion. Welfare benefits are not introduced into society without a reason, so, in order to understand why welfare benefits were introduced, the student of citizenship must look at the link between different ideologies and how those ideologies influence attitudes towards the introduction of welfare benefits. This essential link is missing both in a chronological list of dates and all other variations based around the development of some form of list.
