ABSTRACT

Marxists and feminists believe that the provision of welfare does not act in the interest of all citizens. It is through the provision of welfare that the state is able to maintain the status quo and keep those with power in power. For Marxists, the provision of welfare enables elite ‘ruling class’ groups to be maintained in a position of power, whilst feminists argue that it is the provision of welfare that provides one of the explanations for the continuation of male dominance.
