ABSTRACT

In an interesting article, Deborah Orr takes the consultative Neighbourhood Renewal Strategy Report, published by the Social Exclusion Unit in April 2000, and translates the report’s key ideas from the language of ‘excruciating politeness’ into short ‘bitesize’ points. These key ideas are seen as a way in which those citizens who have experienced poverty can be given the help and support they need in order to get themselves out of their situation. This is a much more positive note, a note that suggests that there is hope and a future for all citizens. Read and digest the list opposite before completing the research exercise below.
