SOURCES OF CIVIL PROCEDURE: STRUCTURE AND JURISDICTION OF THE CIVIL COURTS

The Civil Procedure Rules (CPR) 1998 came into force on 26 April 1999.1 The rules are a single procedural code applying to both the High Court and county courts and replace the Rules of the Supreme Court (RSC) and the County Court Rules (CCR). The statutory basis of the CPR is the Civil Procedure Act 1997. The CPR are a form of delegated legislation and are drafted by the Civil Procedure Rule Committee which replaced the Supreme Court Rule Committee and the County Court Rule Committee.
