ABSTRACT
UK food law is now determined largely at European Union (EU) EU level. In order to appreciate the importance of the relationship between the EU and Member States and the way in which EU law operates within the UK, it is necessary to examine briefly the history and development of the European Community (EC) and European Union (EU), the institutions, the legislative processes and the types of legislation which can be made under them, and the fundamental principle of free movement of goods.
