ABSTRACT
This is a summary of the more significant events in the BSE story. In responding to the emergence of BSE, the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAFF) and the Department of Health (DH) took the lead. For the most part, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland followed that lead. This summary will focus on the action taken by MAFF and DH.
