ABSTRACT

This book is mainly, but not solely, concerned with the criminal offence of insider dealing. There are certain other ‘market’-related offences and the Criminal Justice Act 19931 is not the only Act of Parliament which enables criminal sanctions to be imposed on persons involved in wrongdoing concerning securities and the securities ‘industry’ in the United Kingdom. Certain offences2 continue to be set out in the Theft Act 1968.3 As will be seen shortly, the Financial Services Act 19864 may also be relevant although that Act is primarily concerned with investor protection containing, as it does, the statutory framework for the regulation of the financial services industry in the UK.5
