ABSTRACT

In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of codes from various legal systems which have been published in translated form. We use the term ‘code’ in a very broad sense here, as including not only bodies of law such as the French Civil Code, but also constitutions of nations, treaties and large pieces of legislation such as the English Land Property Act. Here again, of course, a certain familiarity with the legal system in question will be a useful asset.
