ABSTRACT
The subject is extremely wide and invites discussion of topics ranging from Aboriginal customary law to the impact of non-Aboriginal law upon Aboriginal society for more than 200 years. This contribution will concern itself with the question of the relationship between the contemporary Australian law (which of course can only be fully understood against some historical background) and Aboriginal people. I make clear the sense in which I use certain terms.
