ABSTRACT

The eyeball is shown in Figure 27 and consists of two parts. The bulk of the eyeball is made up of the posterior chamber which is surrounded by a tough, outer coat called the sclera (the white of the eye). The inner layer is the retina, which is the light-sensitive part of the eye. The eye is a direct extension of the brain and is connected to it by the optic nerve. If the optic nerve is transected then vision is lost completely and permanently.
