ABSTRACT

The abdominal cavity is limited above by the muscle of the diaphragm which separates it from the thoracic cavity or chest, and below by the bowl-shaped cavity of the pelvis. Within these limits lie organs which serve several different systems, eg gastro-intestinal system, genito-urinary system, endocrine system, etc, but the major components found there are organs whose functions are mainly related to the digestion of food.
