ABSTRACT
Medicine is the art and science concerned with the cure, alleviation and prevention of disease, and with the restoration and preservation of health. The same term is used not only for a university faculty of medicine but also for the narrower discipline, paradoxically called general medicine or by the old name of physic, which is concerned principally with the exhibition of drugs, as contrasted with treatment by other means. Additionally, the term is used for the medication itself.
