ABSTRACT

Brachytherapy is treatment by continuous low dose irradiation given over several hours rather than the short burst of high dose radiotherapy given in teletherapy. Brachytherapy also differs from teletherapy in that the source of radiation is placed as close as possible to the tumour rather than being directed as a beam from a distance. The distribution of radiation from a radioactive source is thus different from that of a radiotherapy beam used in teletherapy.
