ABSTRACT

The preceding chapters have attempted to explain many of the complex principles that underpin diagnosis and treatment in modern oncological practice. Putting these principles into effect in order to cure or palliate such a serious disease as cancer can, however, present many difficulties and in particular requires an effective relationship between the doctor and the patient. Good communication is thus a vital component of successful cancer therapy. Sadly, it is in this aspect of clinical practice that the problems which ultimately lead to litigation all too often arise.
