ABSTRACT

Where the landlord leaves his property in a state of disrepair, then the tenant can claim ‘statutory nuisance’. This mean that the tenant will:

• report the disrepair to his or her landlord;

• call in Environmental Health Officer (EHO) from council;

• EHO will visit and may serve an abatement notice with a time limit or even apply to magistrate’ court for nuisance order with time limit

• the landlord might even get fined.
