ABSTRACT

The office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has existed since 1879. The duties of the DPP are statutorily defined in the Prosecution of Offences Act 1985. The DPP must be a lawyer of 10 years’ experience. The DPP is responsible for the day-to-day conduct of the CPS and the SFO, established in 1985 and 1987 respectively. The DPP may represent the Crown in appeals in the Court of Appeal or above. The current DPP is Mrs Barbara Mills QC.
