You should warn your client that privately funded advice is becoming increasingly common, even for people on relatively low incomes. In recent years the number of people entitled to free legal advice has been drastically reduced. At the very least, your client will be required to make a contribution to the legal aid order. Many solicitors will expect the client to pay a substantial sum on account before taking any action on their behalf in a criminal matter.
