ABSTRACT

The Central Council for the Education and Training of Social Workers’ (CCETSW) Equal Opportunity Policy requires that all qualifying candidates have ‘a thorough knowledge and understanding of the diversity of individual lifestyles and communities in the UK’. This chapter seeks to enable the student and practitioner alike to recognise and respect the differences in sex, race, disability, religion, culture, sexual orientation and ethnic origin. Moreover, to understand the relevant anti-discriminatory legal framework surrounding these issues, so as to encourage an anti-oppressive environment at work.
