ABSTRACT
This is the most common dust disease in the United Kingdom. There are several hundred new cases each year. Because coal dust is not particularly fibrogenic, considerable exposure over 15-20 years is usually needed to cause the disease, whereas silica is far more fibrogenic and likely to cause the disease in a shorter length of time.
