Persons under the age of 21 While the age of majority has been reduced from the age of 21 to the age of 18 years by section 1 of the Family Law Reform Act 1969, no person succeeding to a peerage below the age of 21 may take his or her seat in the House.21 Technically, persons under the age of 21 are not disqualified, but merely ineligible to take their seats until they reach the age of 21.
