ABSTRACT

Invariably, the first topics studied in employment law are the sources and the institutions. This is because employment law has its own specific adjudicative forums and bodies which oversee the operation of the law. As such, it is necessary to learn the nature of these institutions to be able to study the subject. General questions may arise on the institutions, or more specific questions may be set, given that the Trade Union Reform and Employment Rights Act (TURERA) 1993 gave the power to the Secretary of State to increase the jurisdiction of the employment tribunals and this was introduced by the Employment Tribunals (Extension of Jurisdiction) Order 1994 (now the Employment Tribunals Act 1996).
