ABSTRACT
The net effect calculation is now most used, the one third rule (always more a guide than a rule) having fallen largely into disuse, and being mostly as inappropriate to the rich as to the poor. Some judges still find it useful in middle income cases, however. Nevertheless, this must be of questionable value following White v White [2000] 2 FLR 981.
