The right to search premises under the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984

Under section 18, a police officer may enter premises of a person arrested for an arrestable offence and search for evidence of the offence for which he has been arrested or for related offences. There must be reasonable grounds for believing that the evidence is on the premises. Authorisation for the search must be given by a senior officer, and a written record of the grounds for the search and the evidence sought must be made.150
