ABSTRACT

The line of demarcation between Chapter 5 and the present chapter can sometimes be difficult to draw. This is because, among other things, many of the procedures discussed in the previous chapter may be applied to detained persons under a wide variety of circumstances, including the alleged offences involved and the period that they are detained for. The topics that will now be discussed include the general conditions of detention and the treatment of detained persons, the administering of cautions, the conduct of interviews including access to legal advice, the tape and video recording of interviews, confessions, fingerprinting and other identification procedures, including the taking of body samples.
