ABSTRACT

The Aegean, which is a semi-enclosed sea surrounded by the coasts of Turkey and Greece alone, is situated between the Mediterranean and the Black Sea. In the north, the Aegean’s sole outlet is the Turkish Straits which leads into the Black Sea. (The Strait of Çanakkale, Marmara Sea and the Strait of Istanbul). In the south, the Aegean is connected to the Mediterranean by a number of narrow outlets, in all five, between the chain of Greek islands that form straits.
