ABSTRACT

Cultural relativism is defined as being the view that ‘all ethical truth is relative to a specified culture’ and it is said that ‘it allows us to hold fast to our moral intuitions without having to be judgmental about other societies that don’t share those intuitions’. By this definition, societies are entitled to lay down rules for themselves, but not to seek to impose these moral judgments on other societies. A group of countries that impose rules on other countries are breaching this principle in a way which is inconsistent with cultural relativism. The correct answer is therefore (d).
