ABSTRACT
Juvenile-related crime is an emotive issue in the United Kingdom. There is a widespread belief that since the Second World War offending by children and young people has risen alarmingly. Several high-profile cases, such as the killing of Jamie Bulger, together with the increase in offending related to substance misuse – alcohol, glue and illegal drugs – have provided grounds for increased concern.
