ABSTRACT
After a conviction and sentence have been made, the sex offender passes into the hands of those agencies of the penal system charged with dealing with him or her. These post-court services are the probation and social services and the custodial or prison elements of the criminal justice system. Together, they provide for community sentences, custodial sentences or a period of community supervision following a custodial sentence.
